Call for Artists for “The Night Gallery” 8/14/10

I curate a monthly one-night exhibit every second Saturday of the month known as “The Night Gallery”.  It takes place in the lush, Baroque styled Parlour of the Monte Cristo nightclub venue for “Ruin”, a dark alternative, neo-goth music club in the heart of Los Angeles.  There is an absinthe bar, lovely, dark music and ambiance. The show is from 10pm-2am during club hours. Drop off is the night of the show at 9PM sharp. Set up is from 9-10 as directed by me.  Pick up is at 2AM at the end of the night. I am looking for “dark art”, baroque, and/or dark erotica in all media, 1-4 pieces per artist. Large pieces and sculptures welcome! Also looking for performance artists and projections.  Commission is only 20% on SALES of any art! Please submit samples if your art, film (shown as projection, silently, with club music) or performance would fit the dark, elegant vibe and you wih to participate.

Artists are required to be present for at least most of the night in order to meet and greet guests and network and in the case of any sales (I will be happy to handle your sales). You get about 3 feet of linear space, so depending on size, 1-4 pieces. this is a group show of up to 10 artists. It’s not a gallery, it’s a nightclub, so we can’t put nails in the wallpapered walls- things are done a bit differently than in a gallery, although I try to keep an underground, art party meets nightclub vibe.  If you have any easels, please indicate this when you submit work for consideration, as easels are a great way of dislaying work in a clean-looking way. We have a couple of small easels for the windows, may be able to hang some pieces from fishing wire, and we have one table we can use. I ask all the artists to set up their own work under my direction so that the show looks uniform and neat. I encourage artists to bring business cards to promote yourselves. I only take 20% commission (rather than the usual 40%) on any SALES for this show to try and keep the prices lower for more chance of sale. There is ABSOLUTELY NO FEE to show in this show and you get in free, plus one guest. Please submit art to me no later than 7/31/10 and if accepted, I will notify you immediately. I’ll be needing your name, any gallery affiliation, web URL and your medium.
